At The Feelings Teacher, our work is grounded in a unique and compassionate approach developed by Ines Gomes, combining three powerful frameworks: Neurodiversity strategies, Emotion Coaching, and Restorative Practice. Together, they form the heart of what we do — a triad that nurtures understanding, connection, and long-term change.
This approach has proven to be highly effective for children both in school and at home. It helps adults and professionals understand the “why” behind a child’s behaviour, while equipping them with practical strategies to respond in ways that build trust, confidence, and emotional resilience.

Aligned with the principles of Emotion Coaching UK, our approach helps you look beyond behaviour to the feelings driving it. Instead of dismissing or punishing difficult emotions, we help you view them as opportunities for connection. This empowers children to understand their feelings and build the skills to self-regulate

We believe that relationships heal behaviour. Using a Restorative Approach, we move away from shame and blame, focusing instead on repairing harm and rebuilding trust. We provide a safe space for children to take responsibility for their actions, understand their impact on others, and find positive ways to resolve conflict and move forward

Real inclusion means providing support without waiting for a label. Whether or not your child has a formal diagnosis, we use neuro-affirming strategies to address their specific needs
According to Stephen Porges’ Polyvagal Theory (2011), a dysregulated nervous system can’t access reasoning or empathy. A child who feels unsafe cannot “behave” — they can only react.
That’s why my work starts with safety and connection, not consequence.
Emotion Coaching (Gottman, 1996) teaches empathy and self-regulation.
Restorative Practice rebuilds relationships after conflict.
Neurodiversity strategies tailor everything to the child’s sensory and cognitive profile.
Together, these create what I call The Feelings Teacher Triad — an adaptable model that supports both children and the adults around them.
Ines has witnessed first-hand the frustration of parents and schools who are desperate for help but find that their children don’t meet the strict criteria needed to access certain services. Her mission is to bridge that gap — to reach those children and families who might otherwise be left without support.
We are not a counselling service, but rather a supportive and collaborative space where the whole family can be understood and guided. Our work brings together a network of dedicated professionals — including Olivia Rigby and Iona Bramati — building a whole team around the child. We also endeavour to work closely with schools, CAMHS, and Children’s Services to ensure joined-up, early, and effective support for every young person we work with.
By working together, we can ensure early, relational, and meaningful interventions that have a lasting positive impact on children’s lives and the wellbeing of their families.
