Meet The Feelings Teacher

Hi, I'm Ines Gomes

The Feelings Teacher

Ines' journey began in Brazil, where she worked as an English as a Foreign Language teacher. After moving back to London in 2008, she started to work at her daughter's primary school as a Learning Support Assistant.
She worked closely with some of the most vulnerable children in the school—those who often displayed challenging behaviours and were struggling to cope. Realising that traditional methods weren't enough, Ines dedicated herself to further study, constantly improving her knowledge to better understand and support their complex needs.

Rather than seeing this as a burden, Ines saw it as a calling.

Years later, whilst working as a Pastoral Care Leader at a London school, Ines spent her days supporting children through their biggest emotions—helping them make sense of their feelings and find calm when everything felt overwhelming.

One day, curious about why the children kept calling her "teacher," she asked them directly.

Their answer stopped her in her tracks: "Because you're our feelings teacher—you tell us what we're feeling and teach us what to do with that."

That simple, profound response became the name and mission behind The Feelings Teacher Ltd, founded in 2019. Born from the voices of children themselves, it reflects Ines's core belief:

"No child should feel guilty for being who they are. No feelings should be suppressed or misunderstood."

Why I do this work

After 15 years in schools across Brazil and London, I saw the same pattern everywhere: bright, capable children unable to reach their potential—not because they lacked ability, but because emotional, sensory and social barriers stood in their way.

I saw families desperate for help, only to be told their child "didn't meet the criteria." Schools wanting guidance but lacking resources. Children feeling broken. Parents feeling guilty. I knew I could bridge that gap.

So I created The Feelings Teacher—not as traditional counselling, but as a collaborative space where the whole family is understood and supported. A place where early intervention happens before crisis, and where children learn that their emotions are not the enemy—they're information.
